Defence Authority Model School:

I moved to DAMS after finishing class 3 but had to join in class 3 - so I had to repeat a year. The reason to moving to DAMS was that it was very near to our house, probably 5 minutes walk.

DAMS was co-education as well and boys and girls would study together till you reach class 7th. After that , boys and girls were separated but remained in the same building.

The whole batch was divided into 3 sections and I was in the C section. In our section, there were more boys then girls. If I remember correctly, there were some 15 boys to 25 girls.

Amongst the boys I remember the names of Abid, Wahib, Mujtaba, Mohammad Ali, Salman, Sajeel and Nabeel. (Abid left after class 5th and Sajeel and Nabeel were twins, though not identical)

Amongst the girls I remember Sadaf Qudoosi, Samiya Fikree, Faiza Khalid, Sehba Maruf. (Faiza Khalid came in class 6th)

From class 3 to class 7th, I came 3rd in class 3 and 3rd in class 5. In fact, Abid and Sadaf would compete for the 1st position while me and Samiya would compete for the 3rd position. I remember in class 5th, Sadaf came 1st edging Abid by 1 mark, while me and Samiya came joint 3rd. I never came below 5th position during my entire education career at school and college.

When we reached class 7th, our class being the smallest boys class, we were distributed between the other two sections. I ended up in Section B while some of my friends went to Section A. The people whose name I remember include:

Haroon Tabreze, Faisal Gulzar, Saad Bin Rehan, Saad Khalid, Adnan, Shahzad Samad.

I would come 1st and was appointed as the class as well as school prefect.

The only subject that bothered me was Arts. What I drew and considered as a masterpiece, was considered rubbish by my teacher. In fact, I came 1st in class 8th and failed Arts.

The school at the time started with a morning assembly, which we tried to bunk. Sometimes we would succeed while sometimes we would get caught (which was very rare). After that the classes would start. It had OK games facilities. You could play cricket (which we would by coming early in the morning, an hour before the start of the school) and the same ground was used for all the other sports like Football, Hockey etc. You could also learn Gymnastics in the spare time. The school had one canteen, which served good food and there used to be a long queue during the break time.

Now that School has been turned into a pure girls school and college and they have improved the facilities to include a swimming pool, basketball courts. They did that in 1988 (the time I left for Lahore and all my colleagues did their matric (Class 10th) from Sheikh Zaid Bin Sultan College, which was constructed and turned into a pure boys school and college).
